Periodontics & Gum Disease Treatment

What your gums are telling you about your health

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults in the UK and far more common than most people realise. In the early stages it’s largely painless, which means it often goes unnoticed until it’s more established.

Research also connects gum health to heart disease, diabetes and cognitive decline. The good news is that caught early, it responds well to treatment. We assess gum health at every visit, and where we find concerns, we act promptly, explain clearly, and work with you on addressing the cause.

Periodontics and gum disease FAQs

Bleeding gums are common but they’re not something to ignore, they’re usually a sign of early gum disease. The encouraging thing is that at this stage it’s very treatable. Book an appointment and we’ll assess what’s going on and what needs to happen next.

Early-stage gum disease can be fully reversed with the right treatment and improved home care. More advanced periodontitis can be effectively controlled and stabilised, though it requires ongoing management. The goal is always to protect your natural teeth and prevent further progression.

Absolutely. We welcome patients who have been diagnosed elsewhere and are looking for a second opinion or a more thorough course of treatment. Your initial appointment will include a full gum health assessment so we can understand exactly where things stand.

Where deeper cleaning is required, we use local anaesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable throughout. Most patients find the treatment far less uncomfortable than anticipated. Your clinician will explain every step beforehand.
