Whenever people ask me about getting a bridge, the first question is always whether they have to pop it out at night or if it stays glued in forever.

Does a bridge ever come out?

It does not come out. A dental bridge is classed as a permanent restoration because we cement it directly onto your supporting teeth with high-strength dental glue.

You cannot pop it out before bed, and it won’t slip loose when you are chatting with friends. Only your dentist could ever take it off using specialized hand instruments.

How long will the teeth underneath survive?

The ceramic bridge itself cannot get a cavity, but your natural anchor teeth underneath definitely can. Skipping daily cleaning lets curry sauce and sticky bread crumbs rot the real tooth roots hiding under those porcelain caps. That is why most bridges last ten to fifteen years before needing a refresh.
