What is Tooth Bonding and How Does It Work?
Walk into our reception at YOR Dental down at MediaCity, Manchester, and mention you want a nicer smile, and chances are you’ll ask: what’s tooth bonding, and how is it different from getting regular caps?
It’s one of those treatments that sounds more complicated than it actually is.
So, what exactly is composite resin bonding? It’s a tooth-coloured resin that we shape by hand, right on your tooth. First, we pick a shade that matches your teeth and get the surface ready. Then we build the resin up and mould it until it looks right. A special light sets it hard, we give it a polish, and that’s it.
What Is Composite Edge Bonding?
Another query we hear all the time is: What is composite edge bonding?
Edge bonding is when we only touch the very tip of the tooth. Say you’ve worn down your front teeth from nighttime clenching, or you have a rough, nibbled corner on an incisor. With edge bonding, we don’t cover the whole tooth surface. We simply rebuild that missing millimetre along the biting line.
Why Do So Many of Our Manchester Patients Go for It?
First, you don’t lose any of your natural enamel. Unlike porcelain veneers, where a healthy tooth gets shaved down, bonding leaves your tooth intact.
Second, you don’t need injections. No numb tongue or puffy cheek on your drive home.
Third, the entire thing gets finished in one quick visit.
